Book Blurb:

When globe-trotting photographer Allison Cain comes home to her family ranch in Montana it’s to get to know her nephew and to make amends with the widowed brother-in-law she’s left alone to raise his young son.

Evan Carver could never deny his late wife’s younger sister anything, despite the fact she’s been conspicuously absent over the past three years since her sister’s death. Now she’s home again on what she’s called an extended vacation. Evan’s first concern is for his son, Cody, and how his aunt’s visit will affect the five year old when she decides to return to her high profile career.

Allison has no intention of going back to work. In addition to getting to know Cody, she needs to confess her biggest secret to Evan. How do you tell the man you’ve always loved that you’re not just his son’s aunt, but also his mother?

Excerpt:

Slowly she raised her head. Unshed tears filled her eyes, making them glisten like liquid stars. Evan felt a lump form in his own throat. She blinked rapidly in what Evan suspected was a conscious effort to hide her emotions. A knot tightened his gut. He had the sudden urge to take Ali in his arms, as he’d done the day she arrived, and bury her face against his chest, preferably without the argument that followed.
In the very back of his over-used imagination, he could see her coming willingly into his arms. He could feel the heat of her tears against his chest. His reaction surprised and frightened him in equal measure. He didn’t want to feel this way about her, especially when he knew she wouldn’t stay.
“Me, too,” she admitted softly, drawing Evan’s attention from her teary eyes to her soft, pink lips. The tears she’d been fighting back so tenaciously now pearled on her lashes, threatening to spill forth at any second.
Evan moved away from the tree, inching his way around Cody and close to Allison’s side. Cautiously, he lifted his hand and caught the first tear on his thumb, uncertain of exactly what had made her cry, yet knowing he selfishly welcomed the chance to offer her comfort.
“When I left South America, the only thing I could think of was coming here. I wanted desperately to feel the lush grass beneath my bare feet and to smell the fresh, clean air.”
“I don’t care what made you decide to come home. You’re here now and welcome to stay as long as you like.” Drawing her into his arms, he held her close and tilted her chin up with his fingertips until their gazes met.
At the first touch of his lips to hers, Evan tasted the cinnamon and apple of the dessert they’d just consumed. He pressed his lips more firmly to hers. She hesitated only briefly before returning his kiss with one of her own. He barely had time to consider what they’d done when Ali’s trembling voice broke through his consciousness.
“Evan,” she whispered. “Don’t, please.” Pressing her hands to his chest, she pushed lightly. Yet, when he would have backed away, she clenched the front of his shirt tightly in her fists. “We can’t . . .” she warned, still seemingly unwilling to let him go.
“Ali, it was only a kiss.”
She looked up at him with tear-filled eyes and Evan knew if he didn’t let her go he’d likely do something they’d both regret. Gently, he grasped her hands in his and pulled them from the death grip she’d taken on his shirt. With his thumb he wiped away a final spent tear then released her completely. A moment later he was on his feet and walking back toward the damaged fence. It would take every ounce of strength he possessed, he realized, to keep from turning around and taking her into his arms again.

Author Bio:

Like most authors, Nancy Fraser began writing at an early age, usually on the walls and with crayons or, heaven forbid, permanent markers. Her love of writing often made her the English teacher’s pet, which, of course, resulted in a whole lot of teasing. Still, it was worth it.

When not writing (which is almost never), Nancy dotes on her five beautiful grandchildren and looks forward to traveling and reading when time permits. Nancy lives in Atlantic Canada where she enjoys the relaxed pace and colorful people. She invites you to visit her website (www.nancyfraser.ca) and follow her on Twitter (@nfraserauthor). Or, more importantly, just enjoy what she writes.

Book Review: A Shameless Angel by Elizabeth Cole

Review:
A Shameless Angel is a regency romance that truly captivated me with mystery and smartly drawn characters. Theo Drayton (Lord Markham) and Sarah Brecknell are a captivating couple. Sarah is smart, determined and doesn’t buy into societies rules about a woman using her mind. I loved how she taught her former fiancé how to write code. And Theo, a great, endearing hero loved how smart she was. To me, this is a sign of a match made to be. When danger enters the picture, Sarah and Theo shine as a couple trying to solve a mystery and keep their attraction in check.

The mystery in the novel is sharp and intriguing. The author creatively wove a story with perfect pacing and engaging characters. The Zodiac group is very interesting and I found that now that I’ve read book 3, I want to go and read the others and learn about the other agents.

I was given a copy of the book from the Author for an honest review.

About Elizabeth:
Elizabeth Cole is a romance author with a penchant for history, which is why she lives in an old house in an old city. She can be found hanging around libraries and archives, or curled in a corner reading, cat on lap. She believes in love at first sight. Then again, she also believes that mac 'n' cheese is a healthy breakfast, so don't trust her judgment on everything.

The Right Ingredients

I love to cook and bake. I scour cookbooks, watch cooking shows, and stalk Pinterest for new and exciting recipes to try out on my family. While most have been successful, there have been some that I'll never attempt again. The main reason a recipe doesn't work is because you do not follow the it. Another reason, you just don't have the right ingredients or the right ratio of ingredients.

As with cooking, writing needs the right ingredients in order to create an engaging story with compelling characters and strong conflict. I think we can all agree the five needed elements or ingredients to a story are Character, Setting, Plot, Conflict, and Theme. But there are also the spices and seasoning needed to enhance a story.

In regards to Characters, you need to hone your voice and know your genre in order to create the right

type of character. Think about Harlequin Presents - the hero is a super alpha male. This type of hero would not work with Love Inspired, just as hot pepper wouldn't work vanilla cake. Each Character needs to have GMC (Goals, Motivation, and Conflict). If a Character does not have these elements, they will not ring true to the story or plot, their actions and reactions will not be internally driven. GMC can change and shift -- thus the Character Arc.

The Character Arc is essential to a character just as milk is essential to ice cream, as ground beef is to

a hamburger. Each main character and sub characters, if the plot dictates, experiences an Arc. Your characters meet, mix together, sense an attraction, their conflict causes the climax, and resolution. In cooking terms, I've mixed all of the ingredients, some may have been a little tricky (think souffle) and when all is done, there is the satisfaction as the characters have faced the differences, conflicts, keep them apart and they profess their undying love.

As we plot our story, there needs to be pacing and the ebb and flow of the story, much like a sound wave when there is the rising action, climax, and resolution. As the plot begins to simmer, characters meet, create a relationship. The internal and external conflicts flavor each action and reaction. We still need to nurture our characters much as we'd baby a souffle to ensure they are true to the story, themselves, and readers will be drawn to the characters, believe in the characters.

Conflict drives a story, drives a characters thoughts, actions, reactions and dialogue. Conflict needs to be strong, full of spice in order to have a reason for the characters to be in the story. Each of the main characters has to have an internal conflict or else there wouldn't be a reason for the characters to be apart, there wouldn't be a reason for the characters to fight to be together. External conflict adds another layer, just as you build a cake, you have a layer, add the frosting, add another layer, then another layer of frosting.

Setting seems to be the easiest part of the story, especially since the internet has arrived. Obviously, you need to determine the correct setting for your genre and story. Just as you need to determine what side dishes will accompany the main dish, which wine, and what type of dessert. There are aspects of a story that needs to be a historical, just as there are elements of a story or plot and character that dictate the need for the story to be a fantasy or contemporary.

Theme is important, but the part I truly think of the least when I write. Recently, someone asked me the theme of my novel Wolf's Castle. To be honest, as I was writing the story I may not have been able to answer, but now I know it instantly. Not every story will have a theme just as the theme should not be preaching at you during the story.

And as with many recipes, a good, full bodied wine is recommended!

That's it according to Maddy~

1 creep. 2 bodyguards. 3 men who change Molly’s life forever.
Guitar player Molly Davis is taunted with disturbing gifts by some creep she hopes like heck is a harmless, misguided fan. The owner of the bar where her band plays isn’t taking any chances, however, and hires Gabe Cooper and Caleb “Ram” Ramsey to stand guard over Molly and the rest of the band.
Cooper is all business and doesn’t mess with Molly’s emotions. She can handle that. Ram is a different story. He’s gorgeous, has a good heart, and is sometimes infuriating. He doesn’t take Molly’s crap, giving him the potential to be the first man to shove his way through her stubbornness and into her life.
But a violent attack proves the creep isn’t going away. And that almost wrecks everything.
